Oasis - Some Might Say - Sleeve Artwork Explained
Brian, you’re a rockstar too!
These album covers are pure genius. I've always loved them. I didn't know why, but always knew there was something more to them. Sadly, the art of the album cover is lost in this age of digital music. Honestly, I'd enjoy building up a record collection for home listening and have my digital albums to-go for driving and whatnot.
Tony was a huge part of the Oasis sound. The first 2 albums are the Oasis sound. I'm glad to hear a recording engineer agree with what I thought for many years. Tony wasn't necessarily bad. "Oh he can't drum in time". That's only needed for recording. During live, he can drift in and out. He is a punk drummer. Solid. Too bad Noel didn't like him at all. In the public eye Oasis are "similar to the Beatles" or whatever. But that's not true at all. The Oasis sound is a rock punk hybrid with great melodies. And Tony McCarroll was the backbone, the key ingredient to that sound. Yeah, Whitey was a technician, but the core sound was lost in the last 4 albums. Don't get me wrong, still great songs in the last 4 albums. I LOVE Dig Out Your Soul. But it's not the Oasis sound of the first two.
Its like the iconic Nirvana typeface as well, instantly recogniseable
Tony is looking like boneheads brother from another mother here. ✌️😂✌️
Apparently Alan white only got in the band because of him being Paul wellers nephew or cousin or something. I never thought he could drum as well as Tony. Just didn’t have the energy. Versatility. Sharpness. It just never sounded the same after DM. But ……such is life. Everything happens for a reason. Can’t question gods will. Good luck with all you do Tony mate. 👌💯🙏🏻
Proper interesting to find out the real truth. I’d heard rumours as ya do. But nothing like the truth. Sad how they just decided that Tony didn’t fit. I hope he’s set for life though and happy. That’s the main thing. Love ya Tony. I’d love a “ alright our kid”. Or anything from you if you ever even read this. I thought you were the bizz mate. Love luck. Light n love to you bro. Original founder. ✌️✌️✌️✌️👍💯🙏🏻🙏🏻
I shall enjoy looking at the cover again now. Any other Verve artwork explained would be much appreciated. Cheers
thats one wonderful tribute, and as always im mindblown by the quality - the tshirt, this video, and everything else that goes into making this. keep it up! it really will live on forever.
I find it interesting that your Dad had an interest in going into commercial art and that's where your interests were too. Did your Dad influence you to pursue that path since he wasn't able to have that as his career?
I went inside the shop and the customer service was really fantastic and highly recommend the experience, worth checking out ! 👍🏻
All the info still coming out. Could be a cry for fame, could be huge fans. But it’s all publicity and these guys worked with the bands. So it’s interesting to hear stories of what went on behind the scenes. However, everyone has some words to say about Noel either good or bad for the last 10 years. All I will say is! Don’t hate any of the band members for being able to do what so few of us ever could. I love the stories though 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Beautiful sentiment and tribute ❤
Superb!
Good stuff
You’re dad and his art will live on forever🙏
Excellent Brian. More videos please from the Oasis glory days!
Definitely Maybe!!
Cool art, cool sideburns
Great to have you back; its been ages.
Tony lost all his Irish curls what a legend he was 😢 is
Stand By Me is my favourite Oasis song next to Morning Glory, the single cover with the middle aged couple perfectly embodies the spirit of the song 💖 It makes me happy looking at them 😊 I also like the big wedding pictures. I live in the north west too so I may pay a visit to Kendall!
I have your design tattooed on my arm
I worked with Tony on the gas he’s a proper legend him and his wife sue lovely people
Why wasn’t the phone box kept in? Looks cool
Tony was the best Oasis drummer hands down. He just got it. Seems like a really nice guy and really not bitter even though he should be.
Love the meaningful easter eggs Brian added to his work. Such depth, such care. Brilliant
Great watch and hat's off always a pleasure
Tony seems like a humble guy, but how the hell did he not realise that they were going to get rid of him? Clearly the writing was on the wall for quite some time
Brilliant! Need to re-buy this on vinyl so I can properly examine the art work. Didn’t really appreciate it first time round!
Brilliant shop Frist time being in the shop today. Keep up the good work 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'll be visiting Manchester in July and will definitely maybe go to Sifters and Microdot. Man these videos are getting me seriously excited!
The band was never the same after Tony. They had been a gang with special chemistry.
That Mick Ronson story was gold, amazing.
I went to that gig! I lived 20mins on train and had no tickets. We got into hospitality, then the caravan backstage the brothers were cute
Thank goodness you ran out of milk! Seems like divine destiny for you two guys to reunite, it's so rock and roll I love it! Thanks again your sleeve work and design work is fantastic!
Should've been the cover of BHN.
Morris produced two great records and utterly destroyed the third. Be Here Now could have been as great as What's The Story but he was off his face on drugs and just out of control.
Saw them at Doncaster Outlook a couple of times at Nottingham Sandpipers. Great band.
WHERE HAVE ALL THE BOOTBOYS GONE. How relevant is that song now. Great interview saw them perform at Middlesborough Rock Garden, I think it was 1978... Brilliant days. If I remember rightly I also saw them in I think it was 1980 and they shortened the name to just Slaughter.
GLAM PUNK GREAT BAND
Gotta keep it real, those chairs look comfortable. 👍
Imagine The Beatles sacking Ringo before Revolver.
Great interview loved Dogs since buying the "Live at the Roxy" l.p., and always irked me they don't get as much recognition as the other 'big" bands.
Maul Porley flicking peanuts at them was the death knell.
That was good.
thank you for being such an inspiration to me as a young graphic designer working in the music business. Would LOVE to see a process breakdown for the lathums from nothing to a little bit more sleeve artwork! just a thought :)
I went to the gig at Bath Pavillion on the day of this shoot (aged 14). First time they played Morning Glory, Roll With It and Hello live. It was a secret gig and I still feel incredibly thankful to the friend who tipped me off about it. Still got the ticket.
Do you want 10 bob for the meter brian?
Album artwork is worthy of its own fan base
Magic song! The song is in Eb. Does anyone know whether it was sped up capoed?
